New dry eye service from Drage and Tozer Opticians.

We are now offering a revolutionary management option for the most common type of dry eye disease. It is a two step process consisting of an initial heat treatment using Blephasteam, followed by a pulsed light treatment- Tearstim.

How does it work?

STEP ONE: BLEPHASTEAM

Eyelid warming - After cleansing the eyelids with Blephasol, the BLEPHASTEAM mask is used to gently warm the eyelids to soften the oily secretions within the meibomian glands in the eyelid.

Eyelid massage – This is performed to release the oil from the Meibomian glands after warming.

Eyelid cleansing – Blephasol is then used again to remove any debris, bacteria and crusts from the eyelids, ready to have the Tearstim performed.

STEP 2: TEARSTIM

Tearstim is a technique that uses intense light rays to stimulate the tiny oil glands which line your eyelids (meibomian glands). With the help of the light, they will start producing the natural oil needed to prevent tear evaporation, a leading cause of dry eye symptoms.

Sitting in a comfortable chair the eye treatment with Tearstim only takes a few minutes. Your eyes will be covered by protective eyecups and hydrogel is then applied to the lower eyelid.

A series of light pulses is performed around the lower eye, this is non-invasive and gentle. The series of pulses is then repeated on the other eye.

The treatment plan comprises of 4 sessions performed on Day 1,15,45 and 75. After which we recommend an annual top up application.

I’m not a patient at Drage and Tozer, can I still come for treatment?

Yes! The only difference is that we will require you to have an eye examination here first (even if you have a current prescription from your regular Optician). This is to ensure we have a full ocular history before proceeding.

Our eye examination fee is £120.

OR, if you would like to join our Eyecare plan this fee and the dry eye consultation is included.
