West Suffolk Hospital low vision clinic

For part of the ophthalmic dispensing course, our student dispensing optician Andrea Hunt (but as we all know her ‘Andy’) has spent some time with the low vision services for West Suffolk. Low vision patients are those whose sight cannot be fully corrected by spectacles or contact lenses. West Suffolk Low Vision services help these patients maintain as much independence as possible by providing and recommending specialised aids and equipment.

Earlier this month Andy spent the day at West Suffolk hospital’s low vision clinic observing the process of assessing and managing patients. The clinic provides appropriate magnifiers, colour filters and many other specialist aids such as monocular telescopes. They can also refer patients to other sources of help in the area.
