Retinal Photography

Retinal photography is the advanced new method of examining you eye health.

Drage and Tozer are committed to providing our patients with the highest standard of eye care available. Our job is not only to ensure that your vision is at its best, but also to check the health of your eyes, and consequently your overall wellbeing.

We installed two state-of-the-art Topcon Digital Retinal Cameras in our testing rooms in October 2007 being amongst the first of the independent pactices in the country. These cameras allow us to take photographs of the back of your eye (the retina) and enable us to carry out a far more detailed examination than was previously possible.

Retinal photography can check for a number of eye conditions including:

  • Glaucoma
  • Diabetes
  • Cataracts
  • Age Related Macular Degeneration

The image we take is similar to the one shown here and our experienced optometrists can use this photo to diagnose the health and condition of your eyes.
The retinal photography is not uncomfortable and the image is captured is just seconds using flash photography – nothing touches your eyes.

Once the photograph is taken it is stored within our server and then we have a permanent and accurate record of the condition of your eyes, allowing us to compare images and look for any changes, year on year, which could prove to be invaluable in monitoring your eye health.

We make a small additional charge of £10 for the worthwhile investigation which is not normally available under the NHS funded standard eye examination. We are sure that you can see the benefits of this important service, a service that is available to everyone.
