Sandra followed in the footsteps of her father by qualifying as a dispensing optician in 1977 from the City and East London College. She spent the first ten years of her career working for Curry and Paxton Opticians in Chelmsford before moving to Suffolk in 1988. Here she worked part time for a multi -national opticians to fit in around her 2 young sons. This is where she met Helen Drage and in 1995 they went into partnership and opened Drage and Tozer Opticians.
Dawn has been working as an Optometrist for the past 26 years originally qualifying at the University of Wales Cardiff, completing her pre-registration at St James Hospital in Leeds. Dawn enjoys the variety her job brings and meeting new people from all walks of life.
Claire qualified as an Optometrist at the City University in London 30 years ago. Her favourite aspect of working at Drage and Tozer is the patients. Claire finds meeting people from the local area interesting and finds her job very rewarding when helping patients who arrive with specific visual difficulties or challenges.
Contact Lens Opticians
Despite her young appearance Dawn first qualified as a contact lens optician 22 years ago at London City and East London. Originally supervised by Drage and Tozer’s contact lens optician Clive Notely, Dawn took over Clive’s contact lens patients following his retirement in January 2015. Dawn enjoys meeting people and using the new slit lamp microscope and its camera, which allows her to take pictures and video’s of contact lenses on the eye.
Many of our long term patients may remember Andrea working as a Saturday girl at Drage and Tozer whilst studying her A-levels at school. 15 years on and she has worked her way up as a dispensing optician qualifying in 2013 at Anglia Ruskin University and ABDO college. Andrea has several hobbies outside of work including running, badminton, cooking, football, and like Dawn Jones is part of the Drage and Tozer book club. Within work, Andrea’s favourite part of her job is the variation in roles, such as frame selection, lens advice, the teaching of contacts lenses, trouble shooting etc. She particularly enjoys the planning, organising and facilitating of new systems and projects.
The youngest member of the Drage and Tozer team, Rebecca started her career at Drage and Tozer working on reception in 2008 but has been in optics a total of 10 years. In January 2016 Rebecca qualified as a dispensing optician at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge following a three year degree through distance learning, whilst working full time. Rebecca enjoys learning new skills within the job and has a particular interest in contact lenses, low vision and meeting new people from all walks of life.
